Many thanks to CSA members: Kathy Ellis, Jim Conrad and Claire Wells, \u00a0who helped me pull together the last pick-up. Ken and Grayden were away at the Ecological Farmer Association of Ontario Conference near Berrie, Ontario. Ken gave a workshop at the conference on our Horse-powered CSA. Grayden used his videography skills to make several short videos of some of the machinery Ken has adapted for our operation. This year is we managed to do the mulching without snow!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2254\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2254\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orchardhillfarm.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_1986.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2254\" src=\"http:\/\/www.orchardhillfarm.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_1986-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Mulching Strawberries\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.orchardhillfarm.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_1986-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.orchardhillfarm.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_1986-668x445.jpg 668w, http:\/\/www.orchardhillfarm.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/IMG_1986.jpg 680w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2254\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mulching Strawberries<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Here are a couple of yummy soups to try over the holidays:<br \/>\n<strong>Kale &#8211; Sausage &#8211; Bean Soup &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>serves 5-6<\/p>\n<p>500 grams sausage &#8211; cup up<\/p>\n<p>1 onion, diced<\/p>\n<p>1 clove garlic, minced<\/p>\n<p>2 tsp chilli pepper<\/p>\n<p>2 tablespoons tomato paste<\/p>\n<p>4 cups vegetable or chicken broth<\/p>\n<p>2 cups white beans, drained and rinsed<\/p>\n<p>2 cups packed and chopped kale<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 cup lime juice<\/p>\n<p>In large pot stir\/fry sausage until cooked. Add onion, garlic, chilli powder and tomato paste. cook until onions start to soften 2-3 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Add Broth and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil. Add beans and kale. Cook over medium heat about 5 minutes. Stir in lime just before serving.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Squash &#8211; Carrot Soup &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>serves 6<\/p>\n<p>1 medium onion, chopped<\/p>\n<p>3 medium carrots, peeled and chopped<\/p>\n<p>5 cups squash, peeled, seeded and chopped<\/p>\n<p>1 apple, peeled and chopped<\/p>\n<p>3 1\/2 cups vegetable broth<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 teaspoon groung nutmeg<\/p>\n<p>1 tablespoons maple syrup<\/p>\n<p>Salt and pepper, to taste<\/p>\n<p>Add the onions, carrots, squash and apple to a pot or slow cooker, Pour vegetable broth over all ingredients, Cook on low heat until soft. \u00a0Puree the soup. Add cinnamon, nutmeg and maple syrup.<\/p>\n<p>Season with salt and pepper to taste.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Fall CSA ended well with the last pick-up on December 6th.
